Evaluation

The master head of my magazine, 'Heavy Jamrock' which gives a perfect representation of my magazine as the music type is a mix of rock and reggae. The first word of the title 'Heavy' represents the rock part of my magazine as that word is very commonly used in heavy rock. Therefore my audience will instantly realise my magazine has rock in it. Another factor is the style of the 'Heavy' text which is very sharp, big and metallic which represents the rock side of my magazine clearly to the audience. The second word of the title 'Jamrock' gives a brilliant representation of the reggae side of my magazine because the Jam part is a common word used in reggae reffering to relaxing. It is used in the famous Bob Marley song Jamming and also by Damian Marley's famous album 'Welcome to Jamrock' which was where I got my original idea from. The style of the text for 'Jamrock' is very wavey and smooth, which represents the relaxness of reggae.
I have used a range of mise-en-scene of the images such as the camera shots. I used a medium shot for my front cover image which allowed me to show the tension in my artists face and body language which is him resting his head on his arms, creating a serious and tense atmosphere, this attracts the readers attention. My contents page has a range of different camera shots of my artist, ranging from low angle shots to medium shots. It allows the audience to see the artist from different angles which reveals the different moods he is in which reflects the mood of the audience which then creates a relationship between the audience and the artist. The images on my double page spread which has many different angles from six different images. Such as one of my images which is a high angle shot of my artist showing him working on his music, the high angle shot reveals the concentration of the artist while working in the studio. All of the other images in the double page spread are all similiar, showing the artist working which relates to the hard work he has put to be where he is now which is explained in the double page spread. This helps the reader imagine the hard work the artist had went through.
The costumes I used for my artist has a summer theme to it as he was wearing a short and vest which represents where reggae was created, Jamaica. The colours on the costume: green, yellow and red is representing the rastafarian flag and also the lion on the costume which is also on the rastafarian flag and in rastafari religion. Rastafari has a very close relationship with reggae which most people will instantly recognise especially my target audience who will already know this. I also used many similiar props which were all musical instruments to help me represent the musical magazine and also most of the instrument used in reggae.
I used a mix-race male to avoid any favouritism and stereotypes on my magazines representation, and on who should it be aimed at, as I aimed my magazine to be aimed at everybody, no matter of what race. That is why tried to make mix of everything, therefore nobody will feel their left out or feel that my magazine isn't for them. This will lead to a larger potential audience.
All of the writing in my conent is always bold which catches the reader attention, as it seems to make the content more important. I also used a metallic stlye of text to relate to the rock genre of my magazine as rock commonly reffered as heavy metallic rock.
The written content for my Front Cover is all advertisment, apart from the title. The advertisement shows what else my magazine contains, and what extras their are for the readers which may influence to buy my magazine over another. I put a range of advertisement from two different genres; on the left side of the front cover I put all of the rock genre advertisement of my magazine such as the advertisement for the audience to win tickets to Download festival, one of the biggest rock festival in Great Britian; on the right of the magazine I put the reggae genre advertisement such as the concert of the Marley brother's( Bob Marley's son's). My aim was to be able to show the audience clearly that my magazine was a mix of reggae and rock, I put it on the front cover to make it stand out to the audience. The written content for my contents page was very short, clear and informative, informing where everything is in the magazine. I also used informal language to relate to my target audience, which are 18-25 year old males,  and I tried to avoid them getting bored with the content. The written content for my double page spread was made to tell my artists story which was him being an unmotivated 16 year old, who then finds ambition in music which then motivates him to be successful with it after alot of hard work. The story was designed to be a motivational story for my target audience who are 18-25 year olds who are unemployed or are students which under the national demographic statistics are category E. I designed to story with an aim that it will hopefully motivate and influence them to do more with their lives, be the best of what they can be and overall show that whatever they want in life is possible if they commit themselves completely and their time to achieve it, like the way my musician has.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The main social group my magazine will represent are creative and open minded personalities, however I also relate to the 'hippy' social group who are unemployed or are students like my target audience. Overall this social group that my product is representing them liking unique and alternative music such as reggae and rock, unlike main stream music which is followed large majorities of people, however my social group will describe it as 'following the crowd', therefore they differ from the majority.
I would liked my magazine to feature a range of reggae and rock music from different ages however my target audience are aged in between 18-25 therefore I wasn't able to include older music from the 60s to 80s, I didn't want to ake that risk as then I wouldn't have any relevance to the readers.
In my music magazine I tried to be as creative as possible and imagine how my target audience will want their ideal magazine and what will touch them the most, relate to them more. Therefore I tried to link it to that social group of 18-25 year old but also to both of the sexes to have a bigger potential audience and social group, however my main target are still males.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think that IPC media will be the kind of media institution that will distribute my media  product as they brand and distribute magazines like NME. NMe would be ideal for my magazine as they have coverage of new music therefore like my artist and also of live events, I advertise live events such as festivals and concerts.

4.Who be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my media product would be young male adults aged from 18-25 who are either listens to rock or reggae or both. They will be followers of the rock and reggae industry news. Therefore my audience will be aware of what is happening in the music industry. They will also be followers and attenders of concerts and music festivals, therefore I advertised live events such as concerts and music festivals on my front cover specifically, so the audience will immediately see the advertisement before going through the magazine.

5.How did you attract/address your audience?

Master Heading
My master heading is very important as it links the two music genres I am representing in my music magazine; reggae and rock. We can see this in the text of the title and style of the text. For example the text 'HEAVY' has a sharp, large and metallically to represent the rock side of my magazine and for 'Jamrock' I used a smooth and wavey stlye of text to represent the reggae.
The words also have an effect on linking the genres as 'HEAVY' is referred to heavy metal which represents rock. 'Jamrock' represents reggae completely as the word 'jam' in reggae is referred to relaxing, for example in Bob Marley's successful song Jamming and also Damian Marley's album 'Welcome to Jamrock' represents the Jamrock in my magazine. Overall this shows the audience instantly the mix of the two genres.

I have put a range of advertisement to represent the two genres; on the left side I have put the rock side of my magazine for example: Download Festival tickets and Foo Fighters interview. On the right side of my magazine I put the reggae side of my magazine for example the Marley brother's concert. Overall I aimed to create a balance of advertisement between the genres and to attract the audience by their first sight of the magazine.

6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Through my process of constructing this magazine I have learnt many new things in the aspects of technology. The most effective aspect I have learnt was Photoshop which was the programme I have used to create my music magazine. It consisted such a variety of attributes such as editing my images; adding effects on to them to make it look better, clearer for the audience which involved cutting some parts out and to make some things stand out more than others , it was a very useful tool that learnt; layering out the magazine layout was very important skill I had to learn as I had to look at it from the audiences point of view, analysing what will suit my audience more and make it more clearer for them.
Another technological aspect I learnt was using the more advanced cameras such as the Cannon 650. This camera was much harder to use than my ordinary digital camera, although it was much more difficult to use it gave much more clearer images which revealed high quality colours definition to the images.

7.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

After looking back at my premilinary task to my final product, I  have learnt a variety of techniques in editing and creating an magazine overall, on photoshop. By learning different techniques on photoshop I have managed to edit my magazine to make it look more efficient, presentable and clearer.
By researching and reading many different music magazine I have analysed what types of features attracts buyers. Therefore from my analysis I added to my magazine future music events, informing and giving reader's information about them; chances to win prizes; and breaking news in the music industry.
Overall I have learnt about the procedures that need to be taken in order to create a magazine. I have learnt the different aspects of a magazine a publishing company has to take into consideration before publishing, such as target audience and price which are all key attributes in order for the magazine to be sold.
